If you’re planning on making a move to a new property sometime soon, then you may be a little bit anxious about what might be waiting in store for you. After all, there have been reports that moving house can be considered one of life’s most stressful events, even more traumatic than divorce. But must we always believe reports? We don’t think so. There are always new ways to do things, and we think that a stress-free move might be possible after all. Here are some tips to ensure your move goes smoothly.
More Time Than You Need
Sure, if you leave your move to the last minute, it’s going to be stressful. If you leave anything to the last minute, there’s going to be an element of stress! So why not act smarter, and give yourself more time than you need? If you manage eight weeks, good; if you can stretch it to the twelve weeks, all the better. Make a list of everything that needs to be done, and get to work going through them with time on your side.
Get Rid Of Whatever You Can
There’s no getting around the fact that you’ll need to take everything out of your home before you pass the keys on to the next person. But you don’t necessarily need to take everything to your new house! Before you begin your packing process, take a look at what you’ve got and ask yourself: “do I really want to take this with me?” If not, give it away or put it up for sale. You might find that you’re willing to get rid of more than you thought possible, freeing up a lot of box space and energy!
Rope In the Help
You could do everything by yourself, but in this day and age, why bother? There are plenty of people who will be willing to help you move, from friends to family members to professionals. In the run-up to the big day, ask people to help you pack (in exchange for pizza and beer, of course). On the day itself, hire a removalist company to transport your belongings, and ask a family to look after the kids (if you have them) while you take care of the important details. If you don’t see the value in this approach, just remember the old saying: many hands make light work!
Space for Treats
There are some tried and tested remedies for beating your stress levels back down. An unhealthy takeaway is one of them; a glass of wine is another. Try to make your move as fun as possible by giving yourself a treat from time to time. If that means taking an hour out of your day to have a professional massage, then so be it!
Remember: It’ll All Be Worth It
Finally, keep in mind that attitude is everything! You can let stress overcome you, or you can adopt a philosophical attitude and let whatever is to happen, happen. It’ll all be over soon anyway!
