Decorating your uni halls room can be a tricky task. It can seem like a shed with a lost cause. But not to worry! There are some simple ways to make your room a lovely little den for you to spend the year in.
No student bedroom would be complete without strings of fairy lights hung up all around the room to make it seem slightly more magical than the boring box room you have been given. Bear in mind that a lot of universities don’t allow plugged in fairy lights due to fire risks so try to purchase ones that are battery powered.
If you have a little extra room in your halls bedroom why not bring your own quirky bookcase. It’s handy for extra storage and can make your room stand out from others.
As my mother used to say “Who uses the big light anyway”. That’s right. Add a lamp to your room and it makes it a lot warmer and welcoming. As well if its next to your bed you don’t have that evening struggle of having to get up to turn the big light off.
Removable wallpaper and stickers
Most university hall rooms do not allow you to stick anything to the walls as this can damage the paintwork. But my friends, there is a way around it. There are removable wall stickers you can get online that won’t damage paintwork when you peel them off. Plus you can hide the marks on the walls from the last Tennant.
The trusty wall hanging is the easiest way to change the walls in your uni halls room as you pretty much just hang it up and you are done. Plus they are really cheap on your local market or on Amazon.
We all know the carpets in uni halls rooms never get replaced and are always covered in marks and stains. If you get a trendy new rug for your floor you can cover them as well as adding more colour to the dingy grey room. As well your feet will thank you for a nice soft floor to walk on!
Okay, I figured this one out in my first year of uni. Your bed will also be your sofa. Why not get some soft cushions to add to your bed to make it look like a comfortable sofa during the day and remove them at night when you go to bed. Or sleep with them. Up to you. Some people like a lot of pillows.
Add some houseplants
Add some greenery to your room with some houseplants! It will give you something to look after as well as providing you with oxygen when you lock yourself in your room working on your dissertation.
Add a new desk chair
|Most uni rooms get given an old lumpy deckchair about six generations old. My advice is to get rid of it. Treat yourself to a nice comfy chair. Considering you will spend a lot of time sitting in it working it is a sound investment.
