So, how can you introduce this trendy, slightly intimidating, material into your home in a way that compliments you and your style for many years to come?

What’s your type?

From the look, feel and durability, this versatile fabric comes in many forms. Here a just a few available at Authentic for you to consider when deciding which is best for your home.

The Bold and The Beautiful

When it comes to fabric, velvet is considered to be a bold choice. Its shimmering texture and sumptuous feel are anything but subtle. You can tone down or highlight its extrovert qualities with your choice of colour and pattern.

Let the texture and feel of your velvet do all the talking with a simple colour.  The Tresillo range of velvets by Harlequin comes in beautiful neutrals and pastels as well as bright and bold colours; the perfect collection to browse if you’re on the fence.

If you’re feeling brave, go for broke with a bold pattern. An Authentic favourite, Linwood’s lively Tango range is a bold celebration of colour, featuring large scale tropical prints with floral accents alongside strongly geometric weaves.

Velvet in the home

If you’re sold on velvet, you might not mind making a larger investment in your new-found love. Velvet on vintage-inspired sofa designs with classic features such as button backs and sweeping arms are a match made in interior-design heaven. Or perfectly mismatch your favourite sofa with a statement armchair

If you’re not ready to take the plunge and would rather dip your toe in its shimmering surface, go for accessories such as squishy cushions, rich curtains and even lighting, such as Oliver Bonas’ Ero Lighting Collection.

For ultimate squishiness, pile your cushions high. For a softer effect, mix your velvet cushions with a variety of fabrics.

Is there a place for velvet in your home?

Designers across all styles, those that celebrate opulence or minimalism, bright colours or neutrals have all celebrated this age-old classic fabric, proving that there is a place for it in everyone’s home.

So, whether you’re ready to go all-in with a sofa or statement chair, or if a scatter cushion or two is your limit, embrace velvet this season and beyond – because it is here to stay.
