Whether you’re a first-time home buyer or looking to buy a nice little vacation home that you can escape to, there’s no doubt about it that the interior of a home matters. It’s really what sets up that a home is a home, that it’s your home. There could be an array of reasons why you’re wanting a vacation home, for most people, it’s a second home that they can escape to so they can forget their responsibilities. In general vacation homes are great for travelers, and it’s a great place to be an additional safe haven for you and your family.
But it’s important that you want to decorate this. Maybe you have some conflicts at your main home with how you want to decorate it, well your vacation home can really be the place to let your personality shine! These are tips for furnishing and decorating your vacation home just like an interior designer.
Think about your interests
So, you’ll want to think about your interests and what makes you comfortable but also your family if they plan on joining you. This is supposed to be home away from home. So you’ll want to avoid making it look like your main home, but you don’t want it to be too different like a hotel room or something or else that can make you feel uncomfortable.
In general, you’re going to want to create a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Think about what makes you happy and comfortable and think about the same for the rest of your family. Your and the rest of your family’s interests should be reflected so it can be a firm reminder that this is the whole family’s vacation home.
Think about the colours
Did you know that colours can affect your mood? It’s true! Colour theory can play a major part in moods and comfort levels. Think about it, did you ever notice that many fast-food chains use the colour red for their logos? That’s because the colour red increases metabolism which then can make you hungry. When it comes to having a vacation home you’ll want nice colours that make you feel relaxed. A small list can include
- White
- Beige
- Yellow
- Pink
- Orange
- Light Brown
- Light Green
- Light Blue
These colours have a happy and calm effect on those who look at them. These colors can be a part of the wall, whether you opt for wallpaper or paint, but even something such as the furniture or shutters for your vacation home as well.
Skip the matching furniture sets
Something that screams “tacky” and “retro” in the worst way possible would be matching furniture sets. They don’t look good, and these sets don’t allow for much flexibility in the space either. It’s best to just completely skip over this ( regardless of how easy they are) and instead do something mixing and matching. You’ll want this vacation home to reflect your home in terms of comfort, but you also want to be reminded you’re in your home away from home. So be open to doing something different but also something comforting. Matching furniture sets are something that cheap hotels do, and it’s not a good look nor is it comfortable either.
