Christmas is almost here, and for most, it’s the best time of the year. But after all the excitement and build-up, there are the strange few days of limbo between the big day and the new year. The week after Christmas can leave you feeling underwhelmed and deflated. But the new year limbo is a great time to get things done as you enter a fresh and hopefully better 2022.
Pre-Emptive Cleaning
If there’s one thing about Christmas we can all do without, it’s all the excess trash we accumulate. Typical things you will find are delivery boxes with an insane amount of packaging from Amazon. Gift wrappers, packages from the gifts and gift bags. You can recycle much of these, such as gift bags, but it’s probably best to throw most of them out. But the trash collection usually also seems to go on strike in limbo. However, you could hire a rubbish clearance company to take your excess away. And the great news is they will presort and recycle most materials.
Take Time Off Work
You might feel it’s too soon to go back to work straight after Christmas. So using the limbo to take some time off is a great way to extend your vacation days and make the most of the end of the holiday season. Typically, the kids are off school during this time, and most companies don’t mind if you take the end of year week for some extra time. However, you might need to use up any vacation days you have left since many businesses don’t give you this week off as standard. But, of course, if you are self-employed, this can be a vital week for business.
Plan Your New Year Goals
Not everyone sees the new year as a time to party. You might feel the end of the year is a special time for quiet reflection and contemplation. The end of the year means a new one is set to begin, and the limbo time is a great way to relax and plan for the year ahead:
- Amend your vision board
- Fill your 2022 calendar with events
- Set out weekly and monthly goals
- Think about achievable targets
- Plan around potential Covid restrictions
You will face many uncertain things during 2022, but anything can be planned. For example, you will know about international travel restrictions, so plan a home-based staycation this year instead.
Catch Up with Friends
We aren’t sure yet, but it is feared that we may be heading into another lockdown or at least severely restricted Christmas. This is because the new Omicron variant of Covid-19 is spreading, and world governments are keen to react quickly to prevent another wave of infections. Because of this, you may not get to see everyone over Christmas. Fortunately, you can use video apps like Zoom and Teams to catch up with friends and family. And you could even host virtual parties with anyone who can’t make it for a responsible gathering over the new year.
Order Anything You Need
You will be aware of the massive promotions and deals in the run-up to Christmas. But as many sales end on Xmas eve, they begin again during the limbo week and into the new year. So this week is a great time to order anything you might need. For example, furniture stores and online stores are known to hold substantial discount deals during this time. Also, you could begin next year’s Christmas plans with a prepayment shopping outlet, so you aren’t left short this time in 2022. Additionally, you can get things like Christmas trees, decorations and even long-life food at a massive discount.
