4 Simple Switches To Help You Live A More Eco-Friendly Lifestyle

Everybody wants to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle and reduce their impact on the planet but it can be hard. There are a lot of simple changes that you can make, like cutting your energy and water usage or taking the bus instead of driving. But the best thing that you can do is change your buying habits. People don’t always realize that the things they buy are made in an unsustainable way or they contribute to plastic waste, but if you switch some things out for better alternatives, you can make a big difference. These are the best eco-friendly alternatives to the things that you buy.

Bamboo Toothbrush

Plastic waste is a big problem at the moment but people are becoming more aware of it. So many companies have ditched things like plastic straws and most of us are being more careful about what we buy and trying to go for things that don’t have as much plastic packaging. But one thing that people often forget about is their toothbrush. Most people will go through quite a few in their lifetime, and that’s a lot of plastic waste. But you can get a bamboo toothbrush that is completely sustainable and use that instead. It’s no different to your plastic one but it avoids a lot of waste over the course of a lifetime.

Second Hand Cars

This one is a much bigger purchase and one that you won’t make as often, but it’s still important. You’re probably thinking that a second hand car is worse for the environment because it isn’t as efficient as a brand new one and it gives out more carbon emissions, but it isn’t as simple as that. If you bought a car that was 20 years old, for example, then you would be doing more damage to the environment. But if you consider things like approved used Mercedes & Smart Cars, it’s a different story. They are approved by the manufacturer so you know they are in good condition, and if they are only a few years old, they will still be efficient in terms of fuel usage and carbon emissions. But you are not contributing to the manufacture of a brand new car, so you are still reducing your impact on the environment.

Meat Substitutes

The food industry has changed so much in the last few years and veganism is becoming so popular. This is mainly because farming animals isn’t great for the environment and people want to reduce their impact. That’s why switching to meat alternatives instead of meat is a great way to be more eco-friendly. That doesn’t mean that you have to become a vegan either. Even if you switch one or two meals a week to meat alternatives, you’re still making a difference.

E-Readers

If you are an avid reader, you probably love the feel of a book in your hand and you might not like e-readers. But have you thought about the environmental impact of books? All of the paper production, the manufacture of the books, and the transportation, has an impact. But getting an e-reader and switching to digital books will reduce all of those emissions.

If you put a bit more thought into the things that you buy and make some simple switches, you can live a more eco-friendly lifestyle.
